AL-KO Vehicle Technology Electronics presents the Onda Smart System range at the Caravan Salon

AL-KO VTE’s new Bluetooth-controlled devices – the PRM400 solar controller, the BDS200 battery selector and a new-generation shunt – make their debut at the Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf. Each product can be controlled via one dedicated app on a smartphone or tablet.

When a house automatically lowers the shutters at dusk or tells the owner if windows have been left open, we call it a “smart home.” However, when it comes to recreational vehicles, “smart motorhomes” are not yet a widespread concept and very few turnkey systems exist in the marketplace. This is why the Onda Smart System, a series of devices with Bluetooth connectivity via smartphone, was created. This solution is designed primarily for the aftermarket segment and is very easy to integrate directly into a vehicle’s existing system. The Onda Smart System now includes three different measuring and control devices. All the new Onda Smart System family products will be presented at the Caravan Salon 2024 in Düsseldorf and will be available from October 2024.

BDS200 battery management

The Battery Duo System-200 can intelligently manage two 12-volt service batteries of different capacities and ages during charging and discharging. By continuously monitoring each battery’s functionality, a faulty battery can be automatically isolated in the event of failure. The device is compatible with the CL-BUS communication standard for seamless integration with other on-board systems. It can be used with lithium and lead-acid batteries (free acid, gel, or AGM), manages a maximum current of 200 amperes (100A per channel), and automatically calculates the remaining autonomy and charge level, as well as checking the battery’s state of health. Everything can be monitored on the Onda Smart System app thanks to its Bluetooth connection.

PRM400 solar controller

With the PRM400, AL-KO Vehicle Technology Electronics’ range of solar controllers can oversee up to 400 watts of total power. The PRM400 is capable of charging lithium-ion and lead-acid (free acid, gel or AGM) batteries at 12 volts whilst automatically controlling and limiting the energy supplied by the connected photovoltaic modules. It uses MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracker) technology, which enables maximum power output from the photovoltaic module in every situation to maximize charging efficiency (more than 20% higher than PWM technology). In addition to the app, information on the operating status can be displayed on an optional panel, and the device also integrates CL-BUS connectivity.

AM500, AM260, and AM150 shunts

The shunts can measure electrical current to accurately calculate the consumption and residual charge of any battery, now up to 500 amperes. The AM500 joins the AM260 (260 amp) and AM150 (150 amp) versions. These CL-BUS-compatible products calculate a battery’s remaining capacity, as well as indicating its state of charge (SoC) and state of health (SoH). All three shunts are 100% compatible with the Onda Smart System and its app.
